My community and I have been victims of consistent harassment and abuse under the current Chief of Police. Our neighborhoods, once friendly and welcoming, now live in a cloud of fear due to the misuse of power by the person who is meant to protect us. Respected research shows a direct correlation between trust in law enforcement and community safety. The International Association of Chiefs of Police reports that "In communities where trust in law enforcement is high, crime and disorder are low."(IACP, Trust & Confidence in Law Enforcement). In contrast, our community is witnessing increased chaos, with our trust in the law enforcement eroding daily. Abuse of power by the chief of police is not just morally reprehensible but severely impacts the social fabric of our community. Therefore, we call for the immediate resignation of our Chief of Police. We demand a leader who values justice, respects citizens' rights, and works for the safety and well-being of all.
