The Issue

We, the undersigned, call for the immediate resignation of Jamie Boggs, Athletic Director at Grand Canyon University.

On April 28, 2025, GCU abruptly eliminated its nationally ranked NCAA Division I men’s volleyball program — a team that had just competed in the NCAA Final Four and was ranked among the Top 10 in the country. This decision blindsided student-athletes, coaches, families, and recruits who had committed to GCU in good faith and gave up all other D1 offers.

This decision wasn’t just shocking — it was unethical, cowardly, and deeply damaging.

  • Recruits who had signed letters of intent found out the program was gone via social media.
  • Phone calls went unanswered.
  • The university responded only after parents threatened to go to the media.
  • The team itself was told the news in a last-minute, five-minute "optional" meeting, where Jamie Boggs stated, "There is no good reason for this."

And more than 21,000+ people agree. A growing movement is calling for the reinstatement of the program and accountability at the highest levels.

Under the leadership of Jamie Boggs, this decision was:

  • Made with zero transparency
  • Announced after National Signing Day
  • Executed without prior warning to those directly impacted
  • Contradictory to GCU’s stated mission of integrity, community, and student-centered education

As Athletic Director, Jamie Boggs bears direct responsibility for:

  • Failing to act in the best interest of student-athletes
  • Failing to uphold GCU’s values
  • Damaging the university’s national reputation and trust with recruits, alumni, and athletic partners

This is not leadership. It’s a betrayal of trust and values.

Jamie Boggs has shown a consistent lack of support for the men’s volleyball program — from funding to recognition to showing up when it mattered most. And when it came time to end the program, she did it quietly, without warning, and without taking responsibility.

We are calling on:

  • The Board of Trustees at GCU
  • University President Brian Mueller
  • Stakeholders, alumni, and supporters to act in the best interest of the students and demand accountability.

Jamie Boggs must resign.

Leadership without accountability is not leadership at all. The athletes deserve better. The community deserves better. GCU deserves better.
