Demand the Resignation of El Paso County DA Yvonne Rosales
Why this petition matters
District Attorney Yvonne Rosales has been a complete failure since taking office in January 2021. She has failed at every aspect of the job and should resign immediately for the following reasons:
⁃ Rosales fired nearly 40 employees of the DA’s Office, including lawyers, secretaries, and other staff, including lawyers and staff who were working on the Walmart case.
⁃ As a result, Rosales no longer has sufficient lawyers and staff to handle the cases she has and is currently seeking out-of-town lawyers to handle the Walmart case. Since 2021, Rosales has not done any work on the Walmart case.
⁃ Rosales has violated Texas ethics rules by using government funds to campaign and promote herself.
⁃ Rosales violated the constitutional rights of a person accused of murder by threatening to seek the death penalty against him merely for asking for his right to a speedy trial. A judge found she violated the defendant’s rights and released him. He is now free in Mexico.
⁃ Rosales no longer prioritizes domestic violences crimes and dismantled the part of the DA’s Office that was focused on domestic violence.
⁃ Rosales has refused to answer if she will prosecute women and their doctors for seeking or obtaining abortions, even if they are for the health and safety of the patient, or a result of sexual assault or rape.
