My children, like many others, are part of the Bloomington-Normal, IL school district, and they deserve a leader who embodies impartiality and fosters unity. However, School Board President Alex Williams' recent public statements have not only been biased and divisive but threaten the inclusivity and respect that every student and parent in our community deserves.

Mr. Williams' words on social media have openly disparaged groups and individuals based on their beliefs and political affiliations. By expressing disdain for MAGA supporters and Christians, and referring to them as "low information voters," he has shown a clear prejudice that cannot be overlooked. This attitude creates an environment of hostility and division, rather than one of understanding and cooperation, which is essential in an educational setting.



Education should be about embracing diversity and nurturing respect amongst different ideologies and beliefs. A school board president must be a model of neutrality and respect, guiding our children to value open-mindedness and empathy. What message are we sending them if our leaders publicly belittle and ostracize those with differing viewpoints?

For the benefit of our children, our schools, and our community, it is imperative that Mr. Williams steps down from his position. We need a leader who will promote dialogue, understanding, and cooperation, not sow seeds of division.
