Dear Youngstown State and NCAA Leadership,

I am writing regarding the serious reports of racism, discrimination, bullying, and retaliation toward YSU volleyball player Niyah Lester, the only Black athlete on the team. These allegations—including racial slurs, targeted harassment, exclusion, and a toxic team environment—are deeply disturbing, especially given concerns that staff were aware and failed to act.

I am urging YSU to take immediate action:

 1. Conduct a prompt, impartial investigation.

 2. Protect Niyah’s academic standing and athletic scholarship throughout this process, and after. 

 3. Immediately remove any negligent staff who ignored or enabled misconduct.

 4. Immediately suspend and expel any players involved in racist or abusive behavior.

Racism and retaliation have no place in collegiate athletics, and I request confirmation that this matter will be urgently reviewed.
