My friend was unjustly accused of a serious offence. Despite the police withdrawing the case at court with no further action, a record remains on the national police computer. This record will follow him for life, appearing in any enhanced DBS check he undergoes. This is not only unconstitutional but also infringes upon his human rights.

Innocent until proven guilty is one of the fundamental principles that our justice system rests upon. Yet, this principle seems to be overlooked when it comes to maintaining records on our national police database. Individuals found not guilty or those whose cases have been dismissed are still haunted by these charges due to their presence in official records.

According to statistics from Fair Trials International, around 1 million people in England and Wales who have never been convicted still have their arrests listed on criminal record checks (source: Fair Trials International). This can lead to severe consequences such as job loss and social stigma.

We believe it's time for change - we demand that all records related to unfounded charges or cases with no answer be removed from the national police computer immediately. It's a matter of preserving dignity and upholding human rights for individuals who've been unjustly accused.
