I, like many other followers of faith, are deeply troubled by Reverend Marianne Edgar Budde's remarks directed towards President Trump, Vice-President Vance, their families and millions of Americans at a highly respected event. Instead of utilizing her honor of addressing the nation to preach love, tolerance, and unity, Reverend Budde chose to let negativity and disdain pervade her remarks. She not only attacked our nation's leaders but also ventured into the delicate territory of discussing illegal aliens – a political topic that the separation of church and state advises against. This incident was unacceptable and violated the fundamental principle of keeping church and state affairs separate.

As a faithful follower, I see the separation of church and state as a pillar that should never be eroded. Anyone who exploits their religious position to propagate personal political ideologies or instigate hate, disrespects this sacrosanct tradition. This was not a simple disagreement, it was a deliberate and vile act that tarnished the sanctity of her position and affronted everyone in attendance and countless watching at home.

A 2019 study conducted by Pew Research found that 65% of American adults describe themselves as Christians, showing the vast number of individuals potentially influenced by figures such as Reverend Budde (Pew Research Center, 2019). Given her blatant disregard for the separation between church and state, we ask that she be removed from her position and issue an apology.
