Our lives were shattered when my 16-year-old son's life was abruptly taken away by Officer Gilbert Santos. Uriah had his life ahead of him, he was a loving son, brother, friend, and grandson! He was very loved in his small community!! This tragedy, unparalleled in its devastation, has left my family and I seeking justice for the injustice we've painfully undergone. However, I stand not alone in this fight - families across the country face the same terrifying reality. In 2021, 1,021 individuals were fatally shot by the police in the U.S, according to the Washington Post's database tracking these incidents. 

Despite the magnitude of our loss, we're not calling for retribution but rather accountability. Officer Gilbert Santos' immediate removal from service gives assurance that those in uniform understand the magnitude and seriousness of their actions, and prevents avoidable tragedies such as ours from recurring.
