Demand the removal of Niki Sharma as Attorney General
The Issue
Petition to the Premier of British Columbia and Members of the Legislative Assembly
We, the undersigned residents of British Columbia, call on Premier David Eby to remove Niki Sharma from her positions as Deputy Premier and Attorney General of British Columbia.
As Attorney General, Ms. Sharma is the province’s chief law officer and is expected to uphold the equal protection of the law and the principle that the justice system treats all British Columbians without regard to race. Public statements she has made raise legitimate concerns that she holds or has expressed racial prejudice against white Canadians.
Specifically:
• In a 2018 post on X (then Twitter), Ms. Sharma wrote: “The unbearable whiteness of local elections results.”
• In a 2016 open letter published in the Georgia Straight titled “An open letter to white Canadians,” she addressed white Canadians as a group, asked “do we have to worry about you?”, and described privilege that could be wrapped “around you like a blanket.”
• In the Legislative Assembly in March 2026, when asked directly whether white people can experience racism, she declined to answer yes or no and instead redirected to general language about discrimination and barriers.
These statements remain unrecanted. They treat “whiteness” or “white Canadians” as a suspect or problematic category in a manner that would be widely condemned if directed at any other racial or ethnic group. This is incompatible with the impartial administration of justice expected of the Attorney General and with the non-discriminatory standards British Columbians are entitled to from senior members of the executive.
We therefore petition the Premier to remove Niki Sharma from the roles of Deputy Premier and Attorney General, and we call on members of the Legislative Assembly to hold the government accountable on this matter.
