As deeply concerned members of the Elkton, Maryland community, we are writing to express our distress over the current state of our boys' varsity basketball team at Elkton High School. The talented group of athletes who make up this team are losing their passion for the game due to lack of encouragement and an inability to play in a manner that best suits their skills. This is largely due to the behavior and philosophy of Head Coach Charles Givens.

Coach Givens has repeatedly belittled and embarrassed his players during games, argued with his coaching staff on the sidelines, and misused his authority as a leader. His outdated approach to coaching has not only resulted in an overall non-existent connection with his team but also deprived these young athletes from getting the full high school basketball experience they deserve. 

The coach's constant aggressive behavior has led him to tell these varsity players that they can't run or remember offensive plays, they can't shoot, and some should "just quit". So instead, they go out on the court and play opponents with no game plan. This kind of discouragement is detrimental for any athlete's growth - both on a personal level and as part of a team.

We believe it's time for change. Parents and players have gone to administration to express their concerns with no action taken. We urge you to consider removing Coach Charles Givens from his position as head coach for our boys' basketball team at Elkton High School. Let us restore encouragement, respect, and passion back into our beloved sport within our community.
