We have witnessed the tragic fate of Alexey Navalny, who lost his life in a Russian prison under public scrutiny. The world watched silently as this tragedy unfolded. Now, we face a similar situation with another political prisoner - Vladimir Kara-Murza, a British citizen currently held in Russia. His health is deteriorating and without intervention, we fear he may suffer the same fate as Navalny.

The incarceration of political prisoners, and their continuous torture and violation of human rights, like Alexey Navalny, Ilya Yashin and Vladimir Kara-Murza, as well as many other activists, is well-documented in Russia. This cannot continue unchallenged. Vladimir Kara-Murza is a brave fighter for democracy and human rights. He played a pivotal role to achieve the adoption of the Magnitsky Act, a legislation named after yet another victim of Putin's regime, that allows imposing heavy sanctions to foreign government officials responsible for the breach of human rights. Vladimir has already been poisoned twice (does this sound familiar?) and is now serving an unimaginable 25 years in prison on baseless charges of treason.

Vladimir is not just any prisoner; he is one of us - a UK citizen. The UK government has an obligation to protect its citizens at home and abroad. Yet, despite this duty of care, our government has not yet released Vladimir from the hands of the Russian Regime.

We call upon the British Government to take immediate action and facilitate  Vladimir's release from Russian imprisonment and ensure his safe return home. Our silence contributed to Navalny’s death; let it not contribute to another tragedy.
