There are countless individuals currently detained in Russia due to their political beliefs and activities. These political prisoners, many of whom are human rights activists, journalists, and opposition figures, are being held under harsh conditions simply for expressing dissenting views or challenging the status quo. Their detention is a clear violation of international human rights standards that uphold freedom of speech and assembly.

According to Memorial Human Rights Centre, one of Russia's oldest human rights organizations, there were 378 recognized political prisoners in the country as of 2022. This number has likely increased since then due to ongoing crackdowns on opposition activities.

We call upon international organizations and governments worldwide to put pressure on the Russian government for the immediate release of all political prisoners. We believe that no one should be imprisoned for their political beliefs or peaceful activism. Let us stand together against this blatant disregard for human rights.
