As a dedicated Honda owner, I’m raising awareness about an important issue that has been affecting many fellow owners. The steering rack in several Honda models—a crucial component for vehicle safety and handling—has been reported to have a design flaw that needs immediate attention from Honda Malaysia.

The issue stems from a problem with the gearbox worm wheel, which can cause swelling in a gear within the steering rack, leading to increased steering load. This flaw affects multiple models, including:

• Honda Civic Hatchback (2022-2025)
• Honda Civic Hatchback Hybrid (2025)
• Honda Civic Hybrid (2025)
• Honda Civic Type R (2023-2025)
• Honda CR-V (2023-2025)

While Honda owners might not required to pay for replacements, the bigger issue lies in the lack of available stock for the redesigned steering racks. Many owners have been forced to drive their vehicles with the faulty part for extended periods while waiting for replacements. There are also reports from some owners who have had the same faulty part replaced multiple times, only to face further delays and inconvenience.

 

This is more than just an inconvenience—it poses potential safety risks for drivers. The prolonged delays and recurring use of the same faulty design pose a risk of further steering complications, which could lead to accidents under real-world conditions.

 

We believe that Honda Malaysia should prioritize a permanent solution to this issue. While we understand that manufacturing and distribution challenges exist, it is crucial that Honda Malaysia takes immediate action to address this defect and restore the confidence of its customers.

1. Redesign the steering rack component to eliminate the flaw.
2. Ensure timely availability of the new parts so owners no longer face long wait times.
3. Conduct a recall to replace the faulty parts in all affected vehicles.
4. Provide an extended warranty for affected vehicles, especially for those nearing the end of their warranty period, to ensure owners are not left unprotected while this issue persists.
