We, the concerned citizens of Bermuda, unite in the face of a distressing reality: the mistreatment of defenseless animals at one of our local pet stores. For far too long, this establishment has perpetuated a cycle of neglect, all while importing more animals into Bermuda when there are already countless in need of loving homes. Repeatedly, concerned individuals have reported instances of animal mistreatment within the confines of the pet store. Heartbreaking accounts of malnourished pets, unsanitary living conditions, and inadequate medical care have surfaced time and time again. We have witnessed the suffering of innocent creatures, and it is clear that the welfare of these animals is not a priority for the pet store.

Despite the tireless efforts of the SPCA, local animal advocate groups, and numerous complaints forwarded to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and government authorities, the grave concerns regarding animal welfare remain unaddressed. The absence of legislation and standards for animal treatment in Bermuda perpetuates a cycle of misery, leaving animals trapped in distressing conditions.

This petition is a call to arms, a resounding cry for justice on behalf of the voiceless. We refuse to continue to allow the exploitation of live animals for profit, disregarding their well-being, and importing more animals into Bermuda when local shelters and rescue organizations are overflowing with deserving pets seeking forever homes.

We are working towards implementing Bermuda's own version of 'Lucy's Law' where reputable Breeders cannot sell animals to pet stores. We are also urging the authorities to enforce strict regulations, conduct regular inspections, and ensure the humane treatment of all animals.

Furthermore, we advocate for the implementation of comprehensive reforms that prevent pet stores from importing and selling live animals, as the SPCA and Cats Bermuda are overrun and are looking for great homes for so many cats, dogs, rabbits, and guinea pigs that are already on the island.

Let us stand united, united for the innocent lives caught in the clutches of this pet store negligence and put a stop to buying from puppy mills and non-reputable breeders.
