Demand the Diversification of Power Providers: Break SCE's Monopoly

The Issue

For those of us who experience the aggravation and inconvenience of power shutoffs by SCE, this petition is no stranger to your plight. On multiple occasions, despite the legal requirement for SCE to provide advance notice of at least 48-hours for a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS), and a 24-hour update prior to a PSPS, many of us have experienced sudden, unanticipated power loss. Many have been left in the dark for extended hours, even when advisories ended early. It feels as though we are at the mercy of SCE's monopoly over electric services.

This petition aims to challenge this unfair monopoly, urging relevant authorities to require SCE to open up their lines for competition. Consumers should have the choice and access to multiple electricity providers. This will not only ensure competitive pricing, but also compel providers to offer a better, more reliable service. It will also help in requiring SCE to update/fortify their equipment so it can withstand something as simple as wind, instead of allowing them to disrupt hundreds if not thousands of people's lives, by selectively shutting off power, but leaving others power on right across the street, in the name of fire mitigation. If my circuit is in danger and the wind is the same everywhere in my area, then how are the houses directly across the street from me, circuit not a fire danger?

As a consumer, one is left feeling powerless when one's service has been off for over 24-48-72 hours even after wind advisories have ended. We call upon our regulators to fix this situation. We deserve better treatment and clearly communicated information about potential power shutoffs.

If we stand together and create pressure for change, we can stop this from being a recurring issue. It's time we regain our power, sign the petition to de-monopolize big energy now.
