Last time I visited Jungle Reef Aquarium and Zoo with my family, our day out turned distressingly sad and alarming. The health and welfare of the animals at the establishment were of significant concern to us. We observed that these captive creatures, supposed to be under care and protection, were instead neglected and seemingly malnourished. It was shocking to learn that our joyful venture to the zoo would awaken us to such a heartbreaking reality.

Places like Jungle Reef shouldn't be allowed to disregard the well-being of their animals. Considering the fact that wild animals kept in captivity are already bearing the limitations that come with confinement, ensuring their health and welfare should be of paramount importance.

Failure to meet the basic needs of these creatures defies ethical, legal, and scientific norms set for animal husbandry. It paints a regretful picture of human dominance over the wild, one we need to change.

The closure of Jungle Reef will send a robust message to other establishments that animal neglect is not tolerable.
