The Issue

I have always loved animals and believe they deserve to be treated with respect, dignity, and proper care. Unfortunately, I have been personally affected by the disturbing conditions at The Blue Zoo OKC, where numerous animals appear to be subjected to unsafe, unsanitary, and inhumane living environments. This is not just a personal concern—it is a moral obligation to speak up for animals who cannot advocate for themselves.

Reports and firsthand witness accounts indicate that animals at The Blue Zoo OKC are kept in cramped enclosures that lack adequate space, enrichment, and proper environmental conditions. In addition to overcrowding, there are serious concerns about unsanitary conditions, including visible mold, which poses significant health risks to both animals and the public. Mold exposure is known to cause respiratory issues, weakened immune systems, and long-term health complications, especially in enclosed environments.

Marine biologists and animal welfare experts consistently emphasize that an animal’s physical and psychological health depends heavily on clean, spacious, and stimulating habitats. Poor environmental conditions—such as overcrowding, lack of enrichment, and prolonged exposure to mold and moisture—can lead to chronic stress, illness, and shortened lifespans. Reputable facilities recognized by organizations like the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians uphold strict standards for cleanliness, space, and animal care—standards that The Blue Zoo OKC appears to fall far short of meeting.

The United States ranks poorly in animal welfare protections, relying on a patchwork of weak regulations for privately owned captive animal facilities. This makes local oversight even more critical. Oklahoma City has a responsibility to ensure that animals housed within its jurisdiction are not subjected to neglect or unsafe conditions

This petition is crucial because it seeks to end the operations of The Blue Zoo OKC until they can meet rigorous animal welfare standards. By demanding change, we can protect the lives of countless animals and set a precedent for other facilities across Oklahoma and beyond.

Join me in taking a stand against animal cruelty. Sign this petition to urge local government officials and relevant authorities to investigate and permanently end inhumane practices at The Blue Zoo OKC. Together, we can make a significant difference and ensure a better life for the animals who call Oklahoma City home.
