Demand the City of Renton Enforce It's Own Nuisance Ordinance And Washington State RCW's
The Issue
In the Renton Highlands, where I reside as a homeowner of a unit at the Sir Cedric Condominiums, public safety and health have been jeopardized by a chronic nuisance property within this complex. For over a decade this property has been associated with illegal drugs, prostitution, child runnaways, illegal firearms, property destruction, domestic violence, and theft causing significant distress and danger to our community. Despite these serious concerns, it appears that the city is not taking adequate action to address the issue even though the city considers it so dangerous its own workers will not enter the property without police escorts!
Renton City Nuisance Ordinance 1-3-3 was established to protect communities like ours from the safety hazards posed by such properties. Currently, the lack of enforcement of this ordinance has left our neighborhood vulnerable. The presence of illegal substances and the reported use of the property for drug trafficking further exacerbate the safety risks we face daily.
This petition calls for our city leaders to uphold their responsibility to our community by enforcing city laws and relevant state regulations, including the RCWs related to illegal substances trafficking, possession, and illegal use of property. Just this past February a 21 year old female overdosed inside this unit on Fentanyl. She is not the first individual to do so inside this unit! There have been numerous individuals arrested for illegal narcotics in this unit by the Renton Police in the past. However, the city has not chosen to use their power to abate or use civil forfeiture to take over this property or charge the homeowner for chronic nuisances and for allowing these criminal activities to constantly continue in accordance with Renton Nuisance Ordinance 1-3-3 and RCW 69.53.010 on the property.
The city's inertia is not only troubling but also inexcusable. We need immediate action to restore safety and peace to the Renton Highlands. Our leaders owe us an explanation as to why the ordinance and related state laws are not being enforced. We must urge them to prioritize our community's safety and take decisive action against this chronic nuisance property in the Renton Highlands at the Sir Cedric Condominium complex as well as any other properties that are putting public safety and health in jeopardy on a consistent basis.
I implore you, as concerned citizens of Renton or anyone who is frustrated with their elected leaders ignoring those who they are supposed to serve, to sign this petition to demand justice and safety for our neighborhoods. Together, we can compel the city to protect its residents and enforce its laws effectively. Sign this petition to make our voices heard and initiate necessary changes to make the city of Renton a safer place to live and hold people accountable for their negative actions. Thank You.
