Follow up email to CPSC Commissioners, Chairman and Inspector General
The CPSC continues to do nothing in the way of a ban and recall of ion alarms which results in more fire deaths and injuries every day ! You are still able to post a comment demanding the CPSC ban and recall these dangerous alarms and share the petition with all your social media contacts and others. Email below includes comments made by 2 fire safety experts, a burn victim whose husband died in the fire and Dean Dennis who lost his daughter along with 4 of her friends in a dorm fire 17 years ago as of yesterday. Four years ago Dean made the presentation to CPSC about the dangers of ion alarms and again the CPSC failed to ban and recall these dangerous and often deadly alarms despite knowing people will continue to be burned or killed.

It can be argued that ionization alarms are a hazard in the home because people purchase them to protect their families in the event of a fire. Since their design is flawed in their ability to detect smoke, especially in the early stages of a fire, they should not be marketed as a smoke detector nor continue to be sold.

As a firefighter, fire investigator and fire inspector for over 30 years, I completely agree with this! Ionization "smoke" alarms have been killing and naming families for over three decades. Ionization technology was not designed to detect smoke. It is misused technology.

research has shown for decades these devices fail to offer the level of protection expected by the public and advertised by manufacturers. In light of the 2018 UL 217/268 standard revisions which go into full effect in June of 2021, ionization smoke alarms which will not be capable of meeting the standard should be banned and pulled from store shelves.

19 minutes could have saved my husbands life and prevented me from sustaining life threatening injuries.
The comment by Regina Laundry is a reference to the Mercer Vs. BRK lawsuit in with the Judge made this comment ....

How it is that the CPSC has not banned and recalled these dangerous ion alarms after 1000's of deaths and injuries due to these type of alarms failing to wake occupants up in time after Dean Dennis made his presentation to CPSC 4 years ago and the letters sent to CPSC by FPE Richard Patton , Boston Fire Chief Joseph Fleming and Senator John Kerry years ago is beyond belief. For the CPSC to ignore this recent petition and claim my email to the saferproducts.gov department does not prove a danger from ionization alarms shows you continue to cover up this consumer fraud and are willing to allow many more fire deaths and injuries which is a total disregard to your duty of care and mission to protect the public from dangerous products.
We have much more information, letters sent to CPSC and other agencies and documented proof regarding this consumer fraud which continues to kill and injure people everyday. The only response to my recent emails to Saferproducts.gov stating CPSC finds no proof of harm only shows your lack of integrity and your disregard to all those that have been killed and or severely burned and those that will be killed and injured in the future. Be assured we will not rest until ionization alarms are banned and recalled and those responsible for this gross negligence and negligent homicide are exposed via national media channels and brought before the highest courts.
