To All Supporters of MHS Change,

We hope you are having a wonderful summer and plan to enjoy the final few weeks.  With the 23-’24 school year right around the corner, coming back and getting involved is important.

Last Friday, the memo set forth below was sent from Dr. Miron, the Millburn High School principal, to parents with high schoolers.  ONCE AGAIN, PROMISED PROGRESS WAS NOT MADE — WORSE STILL, IT WAS ANNOUNCED AND THEN REVERSED.

The GPA weighting scale announced in the memo marks a reversal of the weighting scale changes the administration announced in June, and essentially preserves the same GPA scale (in terms of relative weighting) that had been in place previously, despite widespread consensus from all stakeholders on the need for change.  The MHS administration conducted its own process to solicit feedback only to backtrack on its own findings.

We continue to question why our district ignores our peer schools' current educational practices and policies and the changing college landscape. Those of us involved in Inspire want MHS to evolve, improve and change with the times.  While GPA weighting is a critical component of change, this memo and decision is another example of how the MHS administration failed to embrace a data-driven approach to change.  Millburn remains one of the only schools with the current weighing scale.

With that said, Inspire plans to support the campaign of several candidates running for the Board of Education in the upcoming November election.  We will announce their candidacy in the upcoming weeks and hope you will support their ticket for change!

Candidates will include the following goals in their platform (all of which align with our peer schools). Improve overall culture including, but not limited to the following:

1) Improve overall wellness of students and their high school experience.
Create grading policies and practices that, more appropriately, reward hard work and rigor.
2) Increase access to AP classes.
3) Stress the importance of modernizing our high school curriculum and course pathways.  Our peer high schools (and others) have included access to coursework at local colleges, course pathways that encourage and inspire students to hone in on passions in certain subjects, majors, and careers, and the ability for students to gain credit for internships, community service, special projects, etc.

In addition to supporting our candidates, please attend upcoming Board of Education Meetings.
