Demand that Ardery Kell High School publicly calls attack on muslim student a hate crime

The Issue

A Muslim girl at Ardery Kell High School was brutally attacked without reason in her classroom on Friday, March 7th. The assailant mercilessly beat this girl, hitting her face 5-6 times, causing serious facial injuries and broken bones that now require surgery. The girl did not do anything to provoke this attack. The attacker had been making racist remarks to the student for a long time leading up to the assault. The Friday of the attack, the attacker started to pick on the girl in class, calling her the B word and N word repeatedly and telling her to go back to her country. He then escalated to physically attacking her.

The school has yet to properly handle the situation, punishing with only a 10 day suspension for attacking the student. Not only that, the school has unjustly given the same punishment, a 10 day suspension to the student who was violently attacked, after learning that her family was going public about the assault. The school is trying to label this serious attack as a simple "altercation" between students, rather than a racially and religiously driven hate crime.

Please sign this petition to demand that Ardery Kell High School administration carries out the proper punishment to the assailant for verbally and physically attacking the Muslim student, as well as to publicly call out this attack for what it is: a hate crime.
