Today (20th February 2026), we have hit the all-important milestone of 100 signatures - on average only one in five petitions on change.org reach this milestone.
This campaign is not just to have "festive cruises" in the run up to Christmas but also for alternative transport links within the capital if one method of transport fails (i.e bus strikes or railway engineering works).
Back to the festive cruise link - maintenance at Teddington Lock should be more evenly distributed throughout the year, with a closure from Good Friday to Easter Monday (moveable), a complete closure over the two May bank holiday weekends and another closure over the August Bank Holiday, not a complete closure of these services for literally half the year!
Boats operate on the tidal Thames year-round (i.e from Westminster to Greenwich and Uber Boats) so logistically speaking it would make no difference whatsoever running a boat service after a certain date.
What is needed is better infrastructure at Hampton Court and more rolling stock - the winter closure is an absolute joke!
