The Issue

I am an individual deeply concerned about animal welfare. The way a person treats the most vulnerable—be they animals or children—reveals their true character. It's a strong belief of mine that animal abuse shows a disregard for life, compassion, and responsibility. If someone is capable of such harm, it raises serious concerns about their ability to provide care for children.

Sherin Monachan, a resident of Merrick, NY and a worker at the Jackson Development Center, was recently arrested and formally charged with cruelty to animals. This kind of action, such egregious disregard for a defenseless creature, raises concerns about her position at a Center involved in child development.

Animal cruelty isn't a minor issue; it's a significant crime that often correlates with other serious forms of violence such as domestic violence and child abuse. As cited by a report from the National District Attorneys Association, in a span of 10 years, 88% of families under supervision for the physical abuse of their children were also involved in animal abuse cases (NDAA, 2014).

This is dire proof of why we shouldn't turn a blind eye to such an offense. In the light of these facts, we demand the immediate termination of Sherin Monachan from the Jackson Development Center. It's a necessary action to protect our children and prevent any potential harmful behavior.
