Both the South African Men’s and Women’s national field hockey teams are currently representing our nation at the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup in Belgium and the Netherlands. Both teams fought incredibly hard to get here, earning their spots on the world stage by winning the 2025 African Cup of Nations.

Despite our national teams competing against the absolute best in the world right now (August 15–30, 2026), SuperSport has failed to broadcast the tournament.
South African hockey fans, parents, young players, and sports enthusiasts have been completely left in the dark. To watch our heroes like Dayaan Cassiem, Mustaphaa Cassiem, and Hannah Pearce, citizens are being forced to pay for external international streaming apps. This is unacceptable for a country that prides itself on being a sporting nation.
Field hockey is one of the fastest-growing sports in South African schools and clubs. By depriving the public of watching our national athletes live on television, SuperSport is actively damaging the visibility, sponsorship opportunities, and grassroots growth of the sport.

We demand that SuperSport immediately:
- Acquire the sub-licensing or broadcast rights for the remainder of the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup.
- Ensure all remaining pool matches and knockout stages featuring South Africa are broadcast live on SuperSport Variety or Grandstand channels.
- Commit to broadcasting major international hockey events equitably alongside other national sporting codes.

Our teams are wearing the green and gold on the world stage. They deserve to be seen. We deserve to support them.
