The Arizona Cardinals are at a crossroads.

At the recent groundbreaking for the team’s new training facility, Michael Bidwill was asked about hiring a team president. His response was direct:

“I’m the team president. Next question.”

That moment reflects a larger structural issue.

For years, the Cardinals have ranked near the bottom of NFLPA player report cards. The organization has experienced frequent turnover among coaches and key personnel. Sustained competitive success has been limited. While no single factor explains those outcomes, ownership structure is one of the few constants.

Unlike many successful NFL franchises, the Cardinals do not operate with a separate President of Football Operations overseeing long-term football strategy independent from ownership. Instead, ownership holds both financial authority and operational control.

When one individual holds both roles, accountability becomes internal rather than independent. Modern professional sports organizations increasingly separate these responsibilities to promote oversight, clarity of decision-making, and long-term stability.

This petition does not call for cosmetic changes. It calls for structural reform.

Specifically:

 • The appointment of a qualified President of Football Operations separate from ownership

 • Clear delineation between ownership responsibilities and football operations leadership

 • Transparent commitment to improving player and staff workplace evaluations

 • Organizational structures that prioritize sustained competitive success

New facilities and branding updates cannot substitute for governance structure.

The Cardinals deserve leadership architecture aligned with the standards of consistently successful NFL organizations.
