Demand stronger self defence rights QLD
The issue
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH: GIVE WOMEN IN QUEENSLAND A FIGHTING CHANCE!
Stop telling women and children to stay safe while denying us the means to protect ourselves.
In 2025, Queensland recorded 9,173 victims of sexual assault. 86% were female. 45% were children.
How many more women and children must be assaulted, raped or killed before meaningful action is taken?
We are not demanding the impossible. Other Australian jurisdictions are already acting.
- Western Australia already permits pepper spray for lawful self-defence under specified conditions.
- The Northern Territory has already trialled it. Over 5,800 canisters were sold, with just nine reported deployments, three of which were not in self-defence.
- The NT has introduced legislation to make regulated access permanent, including proposed access for 16- and 17-year-olds with guardian consent.
WHY NOT QUEENSLAND?
WE DEMAND FIVE CHANGES:
1. LEGAL PEPPER SPRAY: A 12-month Queensland-wide trial for eligible people aged 16+, modelled on the NT, with safeguards, guardian consent for minors and independent evaluation.
2. FREE SELF-DEFENCE: Government-funded, professional, age-appropriate self-defence classes or vouchers for women and children, beginning in Ipswich. Safety should never depend on income.
3. MANDATORY SCHOOL EDUCATION: Consistent, compulsory education on consent, bodily autonomy, coercive control, respectful relationships and sexual violence prevention.
4. MANDATORY WORKPLACE EDUCATION: Regular training to prevent sexual harassment and gender-based violence, backed by employer accountability.
5. REAL CONSEQUENCES: Review and strengthen penalties, sentencing practices, survivor protections and measures to prevent repeat offending.
6. PUBLICLY ACCESSIBLE DOMESTIC AND FAMILY VIOLENCE REGISTER !!!!!!!
WE ARE DONE WITH PASSIVE HELPLESSNESS.
We know pepper spray and self-defence training cannot prevent every assault. We know the responsibility belongs entirely to perpetrators.
When prevention fails, we deserve a fighting chance to escape a life changing trauma!!
We are not asking for the right to hurt people. We are demanding practical options to protect ourselves from people who intend to hurt us.
Stop placing the burden of safety on women and children while denying us accessible tools to defend ourselves.
EDUCATE BEFORE VIOLENCE. PROTECT BEFORE TRAGEDY. HOLD PERPETRATORS ACCOUNTABLE.
OUR SAFETY IS NOT A PRIVILEGE.
GIVE US A FIGHTING CHANCE FOR FUCKS SAKE!
Sign this petition and demand action from the Queensland Government and start by protecting the vulnerable in Ipswich, QLD!
