As a woman living in India, my daily existence is characterized by fear and apprehension. The simple act of living freely, enjoying my fundamental rights, should not put me through an imaginable nightmare. No one should live in fear for their safety or life due to their gender. Sadly, the reality for many women in India is not as it should be.

India reported one rape cases in every 16 minutes in 2019 as per the National Crime Records Bureau,with many more unreported. Yet the ratio is nowhere declining at faster rate. The sheer brutality and frequency of such incidents underline the urgent need for forceful action and stricter laws against gender-based violence.

We appeal to the lawmakers and the ruling Government of India to enact and enforce laws that would serve as a powerful deterrent against acts of molestation, rape, and abuse of women of any age. It is necessary to ensure that the laws are strong enough to make people think twice before harbouring such harmful intentions.

We must transform the culture from one which often blames and stigmatizes victims to one which stands firmly against those who perpetrate such crimes, bringing them to justice swiftly and surely. It's time that our safety and dignity are prioritized above all else, structured within a legal framework that truly supports and protects us.
