During my time volunteering at my local animal shelter, I witnessed firsthand the heartbreaking realities faced by countless animals who suffer abuse and neglect. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), hundreds of thousands of animals suffer from abuse every year in the United States alone. This statistic underscores the urgent need for effective and enforceable laws that protect animals from harm.

We propose comprehensive legislation that increases penalties for animal cruelty and strengthens protections for animals across all states. We also advocate for mandatory animal welfare education programs for offenders, which could help prevent repeat offenses by fostering empathy and understanding towards animals.
