The Issue

Last night, an innocent man lost his life in a horrific accident right here in Tom’s River, Ocean County. A chilling reminder of the dangers that lurk on Tom’s River roads when traffic laws are blatantly ignored. Every day, as I drive through our community, I see countless drivers recklessly speeding, ignoring red lights, and treating stop signs like mere suggestions. It's a nerve-wracking experience that leaves me fearing for the safety of my family and loved ones every single time they step out for work or school.

The statistics paint a grim picture. In 2025, while the state of New Jersey celebrated a decrease in traffic accidents, Ocean County saw an alarming increase. Last year, we tragically recorded 63 deaths, and worryingly, we are not even a full month into 2026, yet the numbers continue to rise. This grim reality of our roads demands urgent action.

The Tom’s River community cannot afford to stand by while speed limits are treated as mere suggestions and lives are put in jeopardy every day. We need immediate and decisive intervention from our police department to increase the enforcement of speed limits and traffic laws.

A robust plan should include increased patrolling of high-risk areas, implementing speed cameras at key intersections, and revising current traffic penalties to deter reckless driving. Furthermore, community awareness campaigns should be initiated to educate drivers on the importance of road safety and adherence to traffic regulations.

Lives are being lost, and it is within our power to prevent further tragedies. By holding drivers accountable and ensuring that our roads are patrolled vigilantly, we can significantly reduce these accidents and save lives.

We urge the authorities and our elected representatives to take our fears and frustrations seriously and work towards making our roads safer. We cannot let another life be needlessly lost to negligence. Our community deserves to feel safe, and it begins with enforcing speed regulations strictly and promptly.

Please join me in demanding action. Sign this petition to make Ocean County’s roads safer for everyone.

While I don’t have the power to enforce speed limits in Ocean County, I am more than happy to relay the concerns laid out here to the various Chiefs in the towns of the 10th District and the Sherriff.
