A personal tragedy unfolded when a man named Wyndan Skye horrifically tortured, abused, and killed over 80 dogs. His actions shocked our community and left us heartbroken. Unfortunately, the judicial system in Pike County, Ohio has not met our expectations. His light punishment not only belittles the gravity of his actions, but also potentially puts more animals in danger. This is extremely disconcerting as this is the man whom we believed should never be allowed around animals again. Shockingly, his sentence was reduced with an option for him to volunteer at an animal shelter.

The lenient punishment for such a chilling crime is unacceptable. We must recognize the significance of this issue because mishandled animal cruelty cases don't stand alone. According to a study by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, there is a high incidence of a 'Link' between animal cruelty and human violence (FBI, 2016).

We call on the judicial system to reconsider the Wyndan Skye case, increasing the punishment to reflect the severity of the crime. This is crucial in order to make an example out of this case to deter potential future animal abusers, showing them that such behavior will not be tolerated or trivialized.
