The Issue

On Wednesday, 23rd August 2017 , at the derelict Passmores School site in Harlow,  I found a horse which I reported to the Rspca, She was  A four-year-old piebald cob mare, named Raggy by her rescuers,  she was found suffering from severe laminitis. This painful and often fatal condition was caused by her abandonment.

Tragically she died from her injurys &  those who rescued her tried so hard to help her,  I'm just glad she knew what  love &  compassion was before she passed.

Her suffering mirrors that of many animals left to fend for themselves in similar dire circumstances. New legislation is urgently needed to prevent such acts of cruelty from occurring again.

Just a short while ago, another horse was found abandoned in Harlow and was not as fortunate as Raggy to be found in time ;  he succumbed to his ailments before help arrived. This recurring pattern of animal neglect in our community is not only distressing but also highlights a significant gap in our current animal welfare laws. It is essential to hold individuals accountable for abandoning horses and strengthen the protective measures that prevent such incidents.

The issue of horse abandonment is growing. According to the RSPCA, incidents of neglected horses and illegal dumping have seen a significant increase, with financial downturns contributing to the rise. As these beautiful creatures are left alone and in pain, our community is forced to witness their unnecessary suffering.

We urge policymakers to amend existing laws, increasing penalties for abandonment and ensuring swift recovery and rehabilitation of these animals. Implementing rigorous checks and creating stricter legislation will deter individuals from neglecting their responsibilities. Initiatives such as educational programs in schools and community awareness campaigns can also play a crucial role in changing public attitudes towards equine welfare.

By signing this petition, you are joining us in calling for legislative change that not only penalizes abandonment but also fosters a compassionate and responsible community. Let's ensure that every horse like Raggy receives the care and respect they deserve.

Please sign this petition and stand with us in demanding justice and protection for the voiceless.
