Demand Stricter Gun Control Laws for Minors in North Carolina

The Issue

Tragically, my 14-year-old son, Brion J. Grier Jr., (BJ) fell victim to gun violence on September 27, 2024. He was set up by individuals posing as friends, minors who brazenly display military rifles on social media while smoking weed. The response of the Salisbury Police Department was appalling. Despite their knowledge of the perpetrators, they told me there was nothing they could do, as it's not illegal for 13-year-old children to own weapons in North Carolina. These boys, my son's murderers, are still freely roaming the streets, shielded by North Carolina laws.

This is profoundly disturbing, not only for me but for all parents who fear for their children's safety. Each year, at least 3,000 children and adolescents in America are killed by firearms (source: American Academy of Pediatrics), and my son BJ became one of those victims.

Our plea is for lawmakers in the state of North Carolina to enact stricter gun control laws, especially targeting minors. We demand more stringent regulations on firearm possession by children and their display on social media platforms. No parent should have to bear the heartbreak of a murdered child, especially when the murder could have been prevented by stronger laws and sterner action.

Please, join me in my fight for justice for BJ, and for the safety of all children in North Carolina. Sign this petition. Let BJ's tragic death not be in vain.
