Demand Stony Brook Campus Residences to Reinstate RA Ana

Demand Stony Brook Campus Residences to Reinstate RA Ana
The Issue
RA Ana, a dedicated and hardworking resident assistant at the Stony Brook Department of Campus Residences, was unjustly terminated from her position in February 2024. This decision came after she was placed on year-long probation for taking two days off work due to a family emergency in August 2023 - a request that was denied by the department. In December, while most students were away visiting their families for the holidays, RA Ana remained on campus. Her trip to another building on campus during her shift to get food after her office hours ended at 11 pm was the action which resulted in her termination.
Following this abrupt dismissal, RA Ana was given just two days to vacate her residence and had her meal plan immediately cancelled. As someone who cannot afford campus housing independently, this has left RA Ana facing home and food insecurity.
This is not just about one individual's struggle; it is about the values we uphold as an educational institution located in Stony Brook, NY. We must question how humane it is for an institution committed to education and student welfare can leave one of its own without shelter or sustenance and in a state of emotional distress and trauma.
We call upon all those who believe in fairness and compassion within our educational institutions to join us in demanding that the Stony Brook Department of Campus Residences reverse their decision and reinstate RA Ana immediately. We also ask Stony Brook Campus Residence to apologize for the position they left one of their students in and for the emotional turmoil and distress this has caused on them. Tomorrow, this could be YOU! Hold Stony Brook accountable for their actions. Sign this petition today!
