Southern Water has been irresponsibly and unethically disposing of untreated human waste into our seas. This practice poses significant risks to the marine environment, negatively affects the quality of seawater, and threatens public health.

In the East Sussex region, where the sea is integral to our local economy and lifestyle, this issue is particularly alarming. Our local aquatic species fear threat due to pollution and our public members who go for a swim or fish are unknowingly placed at risk due to the said improper waste disposal methods.

UK's green watchdog, the Environment Agency, fined Southern Water £126m in 2019 for serious failures in its sewage treatment sites, showing this is not a one-off but a chronic problem (source: Guardian 2019).

We are therefore calling on Southern Water to immediately stop dumping untreated waste into the sea and impose measures for responsible waste management. Sign our petition to support the call for ethical waste management practices, and for the protection of our seas and public health.
