On January 5th, 2021, 31-year-old Jamal Sutherland was in the custody of Palmetto Health Mental Health Facility. Experiencing a mental health crisis, a call was made to Charleston Law Enforcement to detain him. No hospital, no other mental health programs, they placed him in the Al Cannon Detention Center.

While incarcerated he was still experiencing a mental health crisis coming up to the time of his bond hearing. Instead of the Charleston County Sheriff recognizing the mental health situation, Former Sergeant Lindsay Fickett and Deputy Brian Houle entered his cell with tasers out to forcibly make the already handcuffed and bagged over his head Sutherland attend his bond hearing. They tased him over 6 times until he was lifeless.

It has been 5 months and the community has just received the video. We demand the person of political power to make these charges, Solicitor Scarlett A Wilson, press charges against Sgt Fickett and Deputy Houle IMMEDIATELY.
