Demand Sicamous Council to Reconsider Zoning Bylaw Amendment Affecting Shuswap Rail Trail

Demand Sicamous Council to Reconsider Zoning Bylaw Amendment Affecting Shuswap Rail Trail
The Issue
Recently, our District Council voted down the zoning bylaw amendment 1044, that was needed for work to begin on the Sicamous portion of the Shuswap Rail Trail. This decision deeply affects me and many others who believe in the potential benefits this trail could bring.
The Shuswap Rail Trail is more than just a path; it represents an opportunity for economic growth and promotes healthy living within our community. Trails like these are known to increase tourism and local business revenue significantly (source: Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society). Furthermore, they encourage outdoor activities which contribute positively to residents' physical health (source: Public Health Agency of Canada).
However, without this zoning bylaw amendment in place, all these potential benefits are at risk. The council's decision seems short-sighted considering how much we stand to gain from completing this project.
Therefore, we urge the District Council of Sicamous to reconsider their stance on this zoning bylaw amendment. We ask them not only as concerned citizens but as individuals who love our town and want what's best for its future.
I have been a proud resident of Sicamous, BC, Canada for the past 20 years. This place is not just where I live; it's my community, my home.
Please sign this petition if you share our vision for a thriving and healthy Sicamous with an active rail trail at its heart.
