The Issue

Showcase Cinema in Bristol has been allowing a church known for its homophobic views to host its services within their venue. This not only contradicts the values of inclusivity and equality that modern society strives to uphold but also creates a space where discriminatory ideologies are given a platform. Such actions are harmful, especially in a diverse city like Bristol, which prides itself on embracing all individuals regardless of their sexual orientation.

The church in question has been noted for spreading messages that are not only discriminatory but also divisive, pitting communities against each other and promoting a narrative of intolerance. Numerous testimonies and reports underline the distress caused to members of the LGBTQ+ community and their allies, who feel alienated and targeted by the church's sermons and activities.

Allowing such an organisation to use Showcase Cinema's facilities normalises these harmful views and undermines efforts to create a safe and welcoming environment for all customers. As patrons of Showcase Cinema, we believe that their facilities should not be used to perpetuate hate.

We urge Showcase Cinema to reconsider their relationship with this church and to take a stand against intolerance by no longer allowing them to host their services there. This action will demonstrate their commitment to diversity and equality and show that they prioritise the well-being and safety of all their customers.

We believe in the power of public voices to bring about change. Please sign this petition to express your support for removing the homophobic church from Showcase Cinema and prioritise inclusivity and acceptance in our community.
