The Issue

Like many residents of the western end of North Kingstown, I have directly experienced the ineffective and unsafe conditions of the intersections at West Allenton and Oak Hill Road. Every day, these intersections resemble a chaos of road rage and unsafe driving conditions, putting every commuter in jeopardy, including myself and my family. It is alarming to witness how these issues have continually persisted, jeopardizing the safety and well-being of our community.

The intersections at West Allenton and Oak Hill with Route 4 have long been notorious for causing confusion and impatience among drivers. Reports of road rage incidents are not uncommon, and unsafe driving practices have become the norm as drivers struggle to navigate these problematic intersections. The lack of efficient and clear traffic management systems makes these intersections hazardous, especially during peak hours when traffic is at its heaviest.

It is time for the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) to take immediate action to address the dangerous conditions at these intersections. To improve safety and ensure smoother traffic flow for all travelers, I propose several actionable changes. These include the installation of more visible traffic signals, improved lighting for better visibility at night, and clearer signage to guide drivers effectively. Moreover, the incorporation of modern traffic management technologies could be pivotal in reducing congestion and accidents.

Statistics from local law enforcement have highlighted a concerning rise in traffic incidents and near-misses at these intersections over recent years. The urgency for change cannot be overstated. As residents, our safety should be a top priority, and effective measures must be implemented without further delay.

By signing this petition, you are urging RIDOT to prioritize the implementation of comprehensive safety measures at the West Allenton and Oak Hill intersections. Together, we can advocate for a safer community and demand that our voices be heard to prevent further accidents and injuries. Please sign and support the push for safer and more efficient intersections in North Kingstown.
