Too many pedestrians are being struck and killed at dangerous intersections throughout Fort Lauderdale. Busy intersections such as Broward Blvd and Andrews Ave, Oakland Park Blvd and Powerline Rd, and US 1 at Sunrise Blvd consistently rank among the most hazardous for people on foot.

According to state crash data, Fort Lauderdale is reported as one of the most perilous cities in the United States for pedestrians. In 2023, Broward County reported 1,114 pedestrian crashes, resulting in 67 fatalities and 965 injuries, marking an increase from 2022. 

These intersections not only threaten the safety of pedestrians but also compromise the well-being of the community and its visitors. Many lives have been lost or irreparably altered due to the lack of adequate safety measures such as pedestrian bridges, enhanced signal systems, better lighting, and visible crosswalk markings.

Implementing these safety measures can effectively reduce the rate of pedestrian accidents and make Fort Lauderdale a safer, more walkable city. We urge city officials to prioritize pedestrian safety and invest in infrastructure improvements that protect individuals from harm.
