Demand Safe and Adequate Housing at 330 Newtown, Lexington KY

Demand Safe and Adequate Housing at 330 Newtown, Lexington KY
The Issue
After over a year of living at 330 Newtown. I've experienced multiple false fire alarms. Each blaring noise disturbs my service dog, leaving him anxious and crying to alert me. Because of the frequent false alarms, evacuation protocols are often ignored by residents. This negligence jeopardizes everyone's safety.
Moreover, the building claims to be handicap accessible, yet fails to have any ground floor apartments. This poses a severe risk to individuals in wheelchairs who find themselves helpless during an emergency alarm.
In one incident, I found unattended children wandering the hallways wearing nothing but diapers. This is a clear indication of neglect and disregard for safety.
There has also been a lethal shooting in the building even though it has only been open since 2023. The news report can be found here: https://www.lexingtonky.gov/news/one-charged-connection-newtown-pike-homicide
These are just a few of the many issues plaguing residents here. There have been people seen open carrying on this Section 8 property. The landlord, Winterwood Inc., has persistently ignored lease violations, leaving tenants in unsafe and inadequate living conditions.
Despite promises of providing safe housing, Winterwood Inc. remains negligent in their responsibilities. It is crucial for the Lexington Housing Authority to recognize these issues and take immediate action against the neglect at 330 Newtown.
By signing this petition, you acknowledge that 330 Newtown is failing to meet the basic requirement of providing safe housing as stipulated in the lease agreements. We demand accountability from the Lexington Housing Authority and Winterwood Inc. to ensure our homes are secure and habitable. Stand with us in demanding change and safeguarding our community. Please sign this petition to make a difference.
