Demand retroactive parental pay in United Flight Attendant’s new contract

The Issue

Too often, the financial impact of parental leave is underestimated or ignored, leaving new parents to face unnecessary economic hardships. United must take responsibility and ensure that employees who have taken parental leave after their contract expired receive the pay that they deserve. 

By adding retroactive parental pay to the new contract, United can show their commitment to supporting Flight Attendants during significant life changes. Retroactive pay as of the old contract’s expiration date in August 2021 would ensure that past parental leaves are compensated fairly.

The United States is too far behind when it comes to parental leave in stark contrast to most other developed countries. United can benefit significantly from offering retroactive parental pay which will allow them to be viewed as a progressive and empathetic employer.
