The issue

Our family is among the 600,000 Australian families who have suffered at the hands of organized cyber attacks. It has been an arduous journey, with 355 days spent trying to work with Westpac to retrieve our stolen funds and gain some semblance of justice. Enough is enough—it's time banks stood up and took responsibility for safeguarding their customers' money with the same diligence they apply to their own assets.

Cybercrime is an alarming and growing threat worldwide, affecting millions of individuals and their financial security every year. In Australia alone, cybercrime has been estimated to cost the country $29 billion annually. Despite the significant investments banks make to ensure their own financial security, the same level of priority is not always extended to protecting their customers from cyber threats.

The financial sector must establish more stringent protocols and adopt advanced cybersecurity measures tailored to protect customer money. Banks should implement fail-safe procedures coupled with a robust system to detect and prevent unauthorized access, providing customers peace of mind that their hard-earned money is safe.

We urge Westpac, along with other financial institutions, to immediately take action to close the cybersecurity gaps that leave customers vulnerable and at risk. Transparent and effective communication should be standard practice, ensuring that customers are informed and educated about protecting themselves against cyber threats while the banks do their part.

Please join us in demanding that banks prioritize the protection of customer funds as much as their own. Sign this petition to call for stronger regulations and mandatory protocols across all banks, ensuring they are held accountable for providing a secure financial environment for all their customers. Your signature can help us drive the change needed to protect countless families from experiencing the devastation we have faced. Sign now.
