Demand Respect for Religious Sentiments of Christians at Paris Olympics

The Issue

I am a Christian and just like millions around the globe, we respect the Last Supper, a holy event that symbolizes Jesus Christ's final meal with his disciples before his crucifixion. My faith is profoundly personal and dear to me. That's why witnessing a parody of the Last Supper during the opening ceremony of a major international event like the Paris Olympics can be deeply hurtful and offensive.

Despite the fact that our diverse world should embody an ethos of respect and understanding, it seems like the sacred symbolism of my religion is being used as a mockery. Imagine an event you hold dear, deeply respected, and considered sacred by you, trivialized and mocked. This is how it feels to see the Last Supper, crucial in Christian theology, played out by drag queens during the Paris Olympics' opening ceremony. This controversial act is not only disrespectful to Christians but also quite insensitive to people who uphold the virtue of religious tolerance.

Our plea is not to curb creativity or freedom of expression, but rather to teach and propagate respect for diverse cultures and beliefs. Let's make the Paris Olympics a platform advocating for unity and diversity, recognizing the deep reverence people hold for their religious beliefs without turning them into a spectacle of humor.

Let's ensure that our world is inclusive, our international events respectful, and our diversity cherished. Demand respect for all religious sentiments at major international events starting with the Paris Olympics. Kindly sign this petition and lend your voice to support the cause.
