We are deeply concerned about the way Principal Shelli Strouf is managing Billings Senior High School. Her proposed policies, which restrict students from carrying backpacks in class and prohibit them from visiting the restroom during class time, violate students’ basic needs and rights, creating an uncomfortable learning environment. Furthermore, her demeanor within the school is inappropriate for an educational professional. Schools should be spaces for nurturing and building respect, not places where strict rules overshadow education and rudeness is tolerated.

Also, there have been issues with basic student care, such as with detention. For instance, when the detention supervisor was absent, students were left without the sack lunches typically provided for lunch detention. This went unnoticed until the end of the second lunch period, by which time the students had not received any food. This lack of attention to such fundamental needs highlights a broader problem with the management and oversight under Principal Strouf’s leadership.

This is yet another reason why she must go: we need someone who will publicly take accountability instead of making us pry information out of her personally. She lacks transparency and seems more interested in being a control freak. As such, we demand her resignation as head principal.
