The Issue

Public transportation is important to the state of Pennsylvania, but the Republicans in the state Senate are turning a blind eye to it. Not only is SEPTA facing cuts, Amtrak’s Keystone corridor is also on the chopping block. Their refusal to fund public transit not only undermines our infrastructure but also our communities that rely heavily on these services.

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is one of the busiest transit systems in the United States, serving millions of passengers annually. It connects people to jobs, education, healthcare, and other essential services. It is a lifeline for countless Pennsylvanians. Amtrak’s Keystone corridor is equally vital, serving as a major route for commuters and travelers alike. Ignoring the dire funding needs of these critical systems is a blatant disregard of their importance to our daily lives and the economy.

It is unconscionable that state senators, entrusted with looking after the interests of the people, choose instead to put these essential services at risk. Their decision directly impacts commuters, the environment, and our state’s economy. By not funding public transit, they fail to commit to accessible transportation for all.

The need for sustainable and reliable public transportation systems cannot be overstated, especially as we face pressing global environmental challenges. Investing in these systems contributes significantly to reducing carbon footprints and easing traffic congestion, which in turn boosts the economy and increases the quality of life for all residents throughout Pennsylvania.

As constituents, it is our right to demand accountability from our elected leaders. We cannot stand by while they ignore such a critical issue. Therefore, we call for the resignation of all PA GOP State Senators who refuse to support the funding of our public transit systems. We need leaders who will prioritize the needs and welfare of our communities above political agendas.
