I  a resident who is deeply invested in securing fair and democratic elections in our country, I find myself disillusioned by the recent discrepancies and malpractices witnessed during the electoral process under the supervision of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. It is devastating to see many genuine voters being denied their fundamental right to vote, a right that is the bedrock of any democratic society.

During the recent elections, numerous reports emerged pointing to irregularities, voter suppression, and unethical practices. This has cast a shadow of doubt over the credibility of our electoral process. As someone who values the democratic principles of fairness and transparency, I cannot stand idly by while the integrity of our elections is compromised.

Moreover, there is a pressing need for structural reform in the way our electoral commissioners are appointed. Currently, the Chief Election Commissioners and other Election Commissioners are appointed through a process that includes the Union Cabinet Minister. This raises concerns about the impartiality and independence of the election commission. To address this, I propose that the current system be reformed to include the Chief Justice of India (CJI) in the appointment committee, alongside the Leader of Opposition (LOP) in Lok Sabha and the Prime Minister of India (PMI). Furthermore, the members of the search committee must be diversified, and the legal immunity granted to the Chief Election Commissioner should be reconsidered to ensure accountability.

This petition is not just a reflection of my personal grievances but a call to every citizen who cherishes the integrity of our democracy. We must hold those in power accountable and push for reforms that instill trust in our electoral system.
