Demand Resignation and Reform of UC Berkeley's Office of Emergency Management

The Issue

My personal safety, along with that of thousands of other students, was compromised due to mismanaged communication by the Office of Emergency Management at UC Berkeley. We were left in fear during a school shooting incident, as the agency obfuscated the actual nature of the crime. The delay in warning students and miscommunication has exposed a serious flaw in our campus safety measures.

The lackluster response from an agency responsible for our protection is unacceptable. According to data from Everytown for Gun Safety, there have been at least 288 school shootings in America since 2009. This alarming statistic underscores how crucial it is for educational institutions to have competent emergency management teams.

We demand that those responsible within UC Berkeley's Office of Emergency Management resign for their negligence during this critical incident. Furthermore, we call for immediate reform within the agency to ensure they take student needs seriously and prioritize clear communication during emergencies.

Our safety should never be compromised due to incompetence or indifference. We deserve an emergency management team that acts swiftly and communicates effectively during crises.

Please sign this petition if you believe in creating a safer environment on our campus through accountability and reform within UC Berkeley's Office of Emergency Management.
