Demand Rerouting of Proposed Liquor Store at 108 Danville-Burgin Rd

The Issue

I am a concerned citizen living near the proposed location for a new liquor-store at 108 Danville-Burgin Rd, the previous site of a corner salon. This location is unsettling as it situates the store directly next to our local school – a blatant violation of KRS 244.540, which states a liquor store shall not advertise malt liquor within 100 feet of a school.

Thank you for taking the time to sign this petition. I encourage everyone concerned to share their opinions with Mayor Monroe, City Administrator Angela, and the City Council members: Sarah Moran, Melinda Wofford, George Hensley, Travis Irvin, Jamie Keebortz, and Sindicat Dunn. Additionally, it would be incredibly helpful if you could send a signed letter of protest to the state. Please address all letters to the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, 1003 Twilight Trail, Frankfort, KY 40601. Your support will make a significant impact.

The safety of our children and maintaining the sanctity of our learning institutions must be of utmost importance. A liquor store in such proximity could not only expose them to inappropriate situations but also disrupt their learning environments. According to the National Alcoholism Center, children exposed to alcohol marketing are twice as likely to start drinking prematurely and 50% more likely to engage in binge drinking.

Our community should foster safe and conducive environments for our children to grow and learn. Thus, we urgently request the rerouting of this proposed liquor store away from the educational institution. History and laws both testify that schools and alcohol outlets do not make good neighbors. Let's put the welfare of our kids before commercial interests. Sign this petition today and support the protection of our kids and our community's peace and safety.
