On Monday, February 17th, Representative Laurel Libby took a morally reprehensible step - she publicly outed a high school student athlete who is transgender. In a now-infamous act, she revealed the student's photos, names, and school, using them as an instrument to further her anti-transgender agenda. Our demand is clear: Representative Libby must resign from her position as Representative of House District 90.

We're alarmed by her unethical breach of privacy, which not only disrespected individual rights but leveraged harmful stereotypes to exclude transgender athletes from sports. It's heartbreaking to witness the very individuals elected to protect and represent us, target us instead. 

Transgender youths are already at a higher risk for bullying, depression, and suicide, and public shaming by a state official can only exacerbate these issues. Statistics indicate that transgender students are more likely to be bullied in school, with more than 77% of transgender youth reporting they've been teased or bullied because of their identity (National Transgender Discrimination Survey).

Respecting individual identity and privacy isn't optional, but a fundamental right – one that our public officers should uphold, not undermine. Such harmful actions have no place in public office, which is why we demand the resignation of Representative Laurel Libby from her seat in House District 90.
