We are now in our longest government shutdown ever recorded in US history, a situation that is affecting the lives of millions of Americans daily. Over 40 million people face hunger without access their SNAP benefits, disrupting their ability to celebrate the holiday season with dignity and nourishment. Despite there being a federal court order mandating the payment of SNAP benefits, this crucial lifeline is being refused, further exacerbating the plight of the most vulnerable in our society.

Speaker Mike Johnson’s actions—or rather, his inactions—have played a significant role in this crisis. By obstructing the work of Congressional members, he has essentially contributed to the prolongation of the government shutdown, holding vital services and payments hostage, including food assistance programs, all in violation of federal law.

Historically, government shutdowns have caused significant disruptions, but this now record-length government closure has surpassed them all, creating severe consequences for American families across the nation. According to the Congressional Budget Office, the 2018-2019 shutdown cost the U.S. economy roughly $11 billion, proving the vast economic impact of such political stalemates. 

The gravity of the current situation demands accountability and immediate action. Under the Federal Anti-Deficiency Act, it is unlawful for government officials, including the Speaker of the House, to continue such an egregious obstruction that affects essential government operations and services. We demand the release of the contingency funds, needed to fund SNAP, as ordered by a federal court order immediately.

Due to violation of following a federal court order and within a timely frame, we demand the IMMEDIATE REMOVAL OF SPEAKER MIKE JOHNSON FROM HIS POSITION. By holding Congress hostage, he is directly undermining the well-being of millions of Americans and jeopardizing the economic stability of our nation. THE PEOPLE FEEL SILENCED & WITHOUT CURRENT REPRESENTATION.

Therefore, We the people DEMAND the IMMEDIATE REMOVAL under of House Speaker Mike Johnson under the following:

• 18 U.S.C. § 1505 – Obstruction of proceedings before departments, agencies, and Congress

→ prohibits corruptly influencing or impeding congressional proceedings.

• Article I, Section 5, Clauses 1–4 – U.S. Constitution

→ establishes the House’s duty to meet, seat members, and prohibit prolonged adjournment without Senate consent.

• House Rule IX & Rule I, Clause 2

→ authorize a motion to vacate the chair when the Speaker acts contrary to the House’s interests or obstructs its work.
